The sixth Dan Burden Trophy will be taking place from 13th to 20th July at Elstead Tennis Club. The tournament is run to remember Dan, a young coach at Elstead Village Tennis Club who died in a car crash on 11th October 2013 aged 21. He was a fun loving, mischievous young man with a great sense of humour. We hope that the tournament will be played with his spirit for his memory.
The Dan Burden Trophy is a LTA grade 3 tournament, which is regional level. Elstead is probably one of the smallest clubs in the country to run a grade 3 event. Players from all over the country have taken part over the past 5 years, and the tournament has expanded year on year. Some of the events are now played at Byfleet but there is still a large number of events at Elstead to enjoy.
From Saturday 13th to Monday 15th, the 14U and 18U boys and girls will be battling it out, with the mini tennis at the end of the week – 9U on Thursday 18th, 10U on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th, and 8U on Saturday 20th.
We are hoping that this year’s tournament will be another success and would love to see you there. Why not pop in for a coffee and watch some amazing tennis on your doorstep.
On Sunday 28th April, we will be holding a supervised social tennis afternoon from 2pm – 3.30pm. Everyone welcome.
The AGM will then follow at 3.45pm.
And the Wimbledon Tickets draw for those members who have “opted in” with the LTA will take place at 5pm, after the AGM.
We look forwards to seeing you!
All tennis playing members (11+) are eligible to register with the LTA and “opt in”, to have a chance to be allocated Wimbledon tickets through the Elstead Village Tennis Club draw (date in May 2019 to be announced shortly).
If you are eligible but have not yet “opted in”, please do so by the deadline of 22nd February 2019 by following the link below:
The LTA requires everyone to opt-in every year, so even if you opted-in last year, you do please need to do it again for 2019.
Even if you are not interested in tickets, the Club would be grateful if you would “opt-in” and assign yourself to Elstead Village Tennis Club, as the number of tickets allocated to the Club is based on the number of opted-in members.

From the 28th January EVTC will be using a new court booking system called “ClubSpark”, as the existing one is being retired. For booking courts for up to the 27th January you should continue to use the existing BookIT system.
As with the existing system you can book courts up to 7 days in advance. If you wish to book a court for the 28th January onwards, you will need to do it using ClubSpark. Access to ClubSpark will be available from the 21st January to book courts for 28th January onwards.
To book using Clubspark, you have to first register and create an account. Booking is easy and self-explanatory, but here are some instructions to follow if needed:
After having registered, go to Book A Court on the EVTC website, follow the link to Clubspark Booking System, and sign in to your account. On the page Make A Booking, click on the court at the time you want to book, and from the drop-down box, insert the time you want to finish – normal social bookings can be up to 1.5 hours. Choose Booking as your Category if it is for a friendly game of tennis; or otherwise as appropriate eg competition. If you click on “Me”, your contact details will come up automatically and you will receive a confirmation email. Press Book Now.
On Thursday 13th December, 17 players enjoyed an evening of festive tennis, wearing Christmas hats and sparkly jumpers, and braving a very cold night. Barbara Awbery organised us excellently. We played a handicap system, which involved quite a lot of concentration from everyone to get it right, but which worked very well as could be seen by the close scores! There were 2 boxes, and we played 4 matches and 7 games each.
Well done to the winners: Caryl Corridan and Katherine Neill in Box 1; and Pui Pride and Katie of Box 2.
Many thanks to Barbara Awbery for bringing along mulled wine and prizes, and making the evening such fun; and to Di Mathisen for baking delicious mince pies. Here are a few snaps:
