2108 Club Championships Entries Now Open

Following on from a successful event in 2017, it has been decided to hold this year’s club championship finals day on Saturday 8th September (with Sunday 9th as a reserve date in case of rain).

It would be great to see as many members as possible entering our club championships. For our new members here is a brief resume of the format. Members enter the competition(s) of their choice. The five main competitions (Ladies’ and Men’s Singles, Ladies’ and Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles) are knockouts i.e. the winning player progresses to the next round. All those who do not win the first match are automatically entered into the plate competitions for the relevant categories and a draw is made again for a knockout competition. The result is that for all those entering the five main competitions, a minimum of two matches are guaranteed.

Many of you have entered the “Blind Date” competition in previous years and it would be great to see a good entry for this fun competition. This is a mixed doubles competition where your partner will be drawn at random resulting in a great mix in of members. Please consider entering – it is £2 per person and free to anyone who has entered two other competitions. There is also a veterans’ mixed doubles competition for men over 50 and ladies over 45.

2017 saw a wide range of winners and runners up (familiar faces and new stars), great competition on finals day and many interesting matches on the way.

Entry forms are available on the “Events – Club Championships” web-page and in the clubhouse. Please ensure you return your form to Mhairi Peck by Sunday 20th May at the latest.

We still need some more help, whether bringing down a cake or biscuits, umpiring or helping supply teas and coffees or cooking bacon or sausages.

Thank you to those who have already agreed to help, but we need a few willing bodies.

For the evening we are running a DIY barbeque, where you bring your own meat and a general salad or equivalent and we’ll supply some beer, wine and soft drinks.

I really hope to see you at the club at some point during the day, all is set fair for a great day of tennis entertainment.

Kind regards,

Scott

Club championships finals day!

Hi All,

Finals Day is coming up fast.  It’s on a Sunday this year – the 5th July and we would really like to see as many of you as possible at the club to support our best players playing singles, doubles and mixed doubles and our good club players in the plate finals at the same time – a feast of tennis.

I will send out the programme in a day or so, but the junior finals are in the morning and the Championship finals are from 1.00pm. We have a invested in a brand new set of trophies for the main events and there is a new Honours Board up at the club as we filled up the previous one!

Throughout the day, we will have hot dogs and bacon rolls as well as cakes, tea, coffee and cold drinks on the go. We will have our informal barbeque, as we have done over the last couple of years, in the evening, where the trophies will be presented to celebrate our winners. We ask that you bring your own meat and a sharing salad dish or pudding. We will supply beer and wine to buy cheaply. If you could indicate whether you will be coming that would help with the drinks purchases!

Can I put out an appeal for some cakes and some volunteers to help serve the food over the day? Even if you can only do an hour or so, it would be a big help. Let me know if you are willing to put in stint and or bring a cake.

Pop it in your diary it will be a fun day. See you there.

Kind regards,

Scott
