Mens A vs Camberley

Great victory tonight over Camberley winning 6-3. Thank you to Richard H, J, Patrick, David B and Shaun for playing and picking up points. Great start to the summer season.

The next match is on Friday 6th May at home to Normandy, ko at 6.30pm. So far I have J, Patrick and Pete for that. Could you let me know asap if you can play.

The match after that is away against Ash (ko 6.30pm) on Tuesday 12th May. Can you let me know if you can play for that one as well.

Again, great start to the Summer season – lets continue it ūüôā

Kind Regards

Mens A vs Bourne C

The final match of the Winter season played yesterday and it was another close one, with us winning 6-4.  On a different day, this could have been an even more commanding victory, as we lost two very closely fought champions tie-breaks.

That result now guarantees us promotion to the Premier division – which is where EVTC belongs!

All season we’ve played consistently and in the end racked-up 112 points. In this league, that’s a great result/finish!

Anyway, now for some other news …

I will be relinquishing the Men’s A team captaincy for the forthcoming Summer season, but leave you in the capable hands of Monsieur Tucker.
Kev has been a stalwart of the Men’s A team for the past 2+ years, playing nearly all the matches. He knows how it’s done!

Mens A vs Frimley

Today’s match wasn’t our finest day on court, as we succumbed to a 6-3 loss to league leaders Frimley.

As expected, Frimley turned out a strong side. Even so, it was a closely fought contest, taking almost four hours to complete.

On the day we lost too many close games and a champions tie-break.  Three of the six players took tumbles on court, with one Frimley player unfortunately having to retire, conceding two sets to ourselves.

We are still in a very strong position having racked-up 100 points. Even so, the league is rather tight with Bourne C and Onslow Village not far behind us.

We have just one home match remaining on Sunday 6th March against Bourne C. We need to pick up some points then to ensure we get promoted to the Premier division.

Mens A vs Onslow Village

Yesterday saw another epic encounter – this time with Onslow Village on a very blowy day.

The bright sunshine bouncing off the wet courts made conditions very difficult for both sides, but we prevailed in the end picking up maximum points in a 16-8 win.

The score line probably merits further explanation. All four rubbers went to champions tie-breaks and two of the sets went to normal tie-breaks. Fortunately, in these key sets, we won 5 out of the 6 played.

We currently lie 2nd in the league with two matches remaining.

Looking at the league, Frimley are likely to win it and be promoted back up the top division. Depending on the results of our last two matches (and a couple other fixtures for Onslow and Bourne), we have a reasonable chance of getting promoted to the Premier division in second place. It would be great to achieve that and test ourselves against the best next winter.

Mens A vs Aldershot Methodists

We came out of the blocks quickly in 2016 with a fantastic result away from home on Saturday, claiming maximum points in an 8-1 win against Aldershot Methodists.

It was a typical drizzly, damp January Saturday and our usual line-up was changed a little with Mr T. (Junior) making a guest appearance, filling in for myself. Sam obviously hasn’t lost his ‘class’. I understand that he and Kev were pushed a little in the first rubber, eventually winning in a champions tie break. After that, they then cruised through the second.

Shaun and stand-in el captain Jamie survived one scare in the first rubber, saving 2 set points but winning the tie-break in the end. They then cruised through the rest of the match.

This win puts us in a superb position in Division 1. We’ll have 78 points with 3 matches to play. All the remaining matches will be toughies, however.

I will confirm the line-up for this Sunday against Bourne C tomorrow.

Mens A vs Surrey Sports Park

Today, we played our final match before the festive break – at home against Surrey Sport Park.

There was a slight change to the line-up with Pete Lincoln making a guest appearance, stepping in for the injured Patrick. He played like he’d never been away, winning all his rubbers comfortably paired with young Max.

Unfortunately myself and Jamie didn’t perform quite as well, winning the first rubber easily but never really getting ‘out of the blocks’ in the second, losing 5 and 6. In fairness to the opposition they did rally somewhat, raising their game. ¬†It seemed everything they tried in the first set just came off. ¬†One for Jamie and I to forget.

Overall, we registered a 6-2 win!

We now lie in a good position in the league, sitting second with four matches remaining. The dates for these matches are given below. Please let me know your availability.

Saturday, 9th January¬†–¬†Aldershot Methodists¬†(away), 1pm¬†KO
Sunday, 17th January РBourne C (home), 10am KO
Sunday, 7th February – Onslow Village (away), 10am KO
Sunday, 21st February РFrimley (home), 10am KO

Mens A vs Frimley

Well, Saturday was a tough away match, as we’d rather expected, at league leaders Frimley.

On a blustery, wintery day taking four hours to play-out, with all four rubbers going to champions tie-breaks and two of the eight normal sets going to tie-breaks, we lost 7-5. We only prevailed in one champions tie-break, despite being up in three of the four.

Still, a good result on their turf against a side that are likely to win the league and gain promotion back into the Premier division.

We picked up 10 valuable points and I think before the match started, we’d have been happy with that – although a part of us all felt a draw would have been a fairer result. In the end, however, it was not to be.

We have only one match remaining before Santa visits – that’s at home against Surrey Sports Park on Sunday, 6th December, 10am start.

Let me know if you can make it.

cheers P

Mens A vs Onslow Village

A superb 8-2 win yesterday, taking maximum points thus adding 16 points to our tally.

On a typical damp Sunday morning, with plenty of British drizzle about, we played a well-contested match, with two of the four rubbers going to Champions tie‑breaks — and we ended up winning both.

We have started the Winter season well and currently sit top of the league. A great place to be, although we have some much tougher tests to come.

There are two more matches this side of Xmas – see dates below. Let me know if you can make either or both of these dates.

  • Saturday 21st November –¬†away¬†to Frimley, 1pm start
  • Sunday 6th December – home to Surrey Sports Park, 10am start

25 Oct

Mens A vs Bourne C

Sunday saw our third match of the season with us visiting Bourne on a chilly but sunny Sunday morning.

A slight change to the line-up with the Chairman poaching young Charlie Welch for a Men’s B match at home (which they won). This meant that Kev Tucker made-up the team, so a pretty strong line-up for us.

Another very tight match resulted in a 4-4 draw. We played on the astroturf courts, which may have slightly favoured the home side (although only slightly).

There were some very tight sets, with three out of the four we lost going to 7-5. On another day, we could easily have taken maximum points here. Still, adding 8 points is a good result in this league, which is turning out to be highly competitive with not a great deal to choose between the top and bottom sides.

Our next match is on Sunday 8th November, at home to Onslow Village. I will confirm the line-up in the next few days.

11 Oct

Mens A vs Aldershot Methodists

We recorded out first win of the Winter season yesterday, with us prevailing 5-4 in a tight match.

We could well have chalked up a few more points here, but narrowly lost both a tie-break in one match and a champions tie-break (13-11) in a second. Still, a great win and a super debut from young Charlie Welch !

Our next match is away to Bourne C on Sunday 25th October, 10am start. No doubt they will provide a much sterner test.

The line-up for the 25th is me, Patrick, Jamie and young Charlie once again.

The next couple of match dates after the 25th are noted below.  Let me know if you can make them Рthanks.

  • Sunday 8th November, home to Onslow Village
  • Sunday 21st November, away to Frimley¬†A
